About the Office of Micro-Credentials
Making Learning Visible, Validating Skills, Empowering Lifelong Learning.
Welcome to the İzmir University of Economics Office of Micro-Credentials (OMC).
The Office of Micro-Credentials (OMC) at İzmir University of Economics was established to transform learning experiences into visible, verifiable, and valuable achievements. The Office coordinates the design, development, quality assurance, governance, certification, and continuous enhancement of micro-credentials and digital badges across the University, fostering a trusted, transparent, and sustainable micro-credential ecosystem.
This ecosystem enables learners to demonstrate their knowledge, skills, and competencies through trusted digital credentials while creating a common language of value and trust among academic units, employers, and other stakeholders.
Our Office
The Office of Micro-Credentials:
- Empowers students to showcase their knowledge, skills, and competencies through verifiable digital badges, strengthening their employability and lifelong learning journeys.
- Supports faculties and academic programmes in designing high-quality micro-credentials aligned with institutional learning outcomes, quality standards, and national and international frameworks.
- Collaborates with employers and industry partners to ensure that learning experiences reflect the competencies required by an evolving world of work.
- Promotes lifelong learning by supporting the development of flexible, accessible, and personalised learning opportunities that respond to changing personal and professional needs.
- Coordinates the governance, quality assurance, and continuous enhancement of the University's micro-credential ecosystem, ensuring that all micro-credentials are developed and delivered in a consistent, transparent, and academically rigorous manner.
At İzmir University of Economics, micro-credentials are not intended to replace degree programmes. Rather, they complement formal education by recognising meaningful learning experiences that take place both within and beyond the classroom. Each digital badge serves as trusted evidence that the learner has successfully demonstrated clearly defined learning outcomes, knowledge, skills, and competencies.
The IUE micro-credential ecosystem is being developed in line with the University's 2025–2028 Strategic Plan, which is founded on the principles of learner-centred education, lifelong learning, digital transformation, internationalisation, and graduate employability. Through this vision, the Office of Micro-Credentials connects learning with the needs of the future, empowering individuals to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
